Mostly I’m testing this…
I haven’t done any 30-day trials in quite a while, but today I tried one thing that is on my list of things to do 30-day trials of. That thing is a green smoothie. Mostly I’m writing this post for my own records, to keep track of what I’ve had.
Today’s green smoothie included:
1/2 cup spinach (very lightly packed)
slightly less than 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup blueberries
1 nectarine
1 banana
slightly less than 1/2 cup hazelnut milk
The hazelnut milk is actually a new thing as well, but I was very confident that I’d like it, since I love hazelnuts! I tasted it and approved before I put it in the smoothie, but I couldn’t taste it anyway. Actually, all I could taste were the blueberries and the banana. The nectarine wasn’t very ripe, which is probably why I couldn’t taste it.
Next time, I will use more spinach, more liquid, and either a ripe peach or a riper nectarine. This one was quite delicious, though. And unlike fruit smoothies I’ve had in the past, it felt substantial; I didn’t feel like I needed some solid food to go with it as my breakfast.
The funniest thing about this green smoothie was that it wasn’t green! The blueberries overwhelmed the color, so it was a sort of dark purple instead.

About the “exercise” challenge: Yes, I pretty much stopped doing it; that is, I stopped doing pushups and crunches regularly, and I obviously stopped writing about it. I’m still getting fairly regular exercise, though, including cardio. Getting into my summer clothes I’m noticing they don’t fit nearly as well as they used to, and I’m trying to lose some weight!
But now I’m on a new challenge (day 3 of a new challenge, actually): affirmations. Inspired by a recent post of Glowing Face Man, I have a short list of affirmations that I’m speaking while looking at myself in a mirror every day. I don’t think there’s much point in making daily posts about it, but I’ll try to post occasionally, especially if I notice any differences. Posting now should cement my intention.

Today I did 7 pilates repeats and 12 pushups before riding my bike. I also did a little walking around on my old college campus.

Today I did 30 crunches and 12 pushups before riding my bike. I also took the dog for a walk, but it was a fairly short one; my leg muscles were protesting badly. I think taking such a long walk yesterday tired them out. Last summer I backpacked around Wales for two weeks and my legs were very upset with me by the end; I don’t want to strain them that way again. Thankfully I won’t be walking the dog again for several days at least. I should definitely walk her more often, though, and see if I can’t train those muscles up.

Today I did 30 crunches and 11 pushups. I didn’t ride my bike, anticipating belly dance class as well as walking the dog. I didn’t end up going to belly dance class, because my boyfriend (who lives two hours away) made an unexpected visit. I did get exercise, and we also took the dog for a nice long walk.

Today I did 6 pilates repeats and 10 pushups before riding my bike. I took the dog for a longer walk than last night–it was chilly, but not raining, which made the walk infinitely better.

Today I did 25 crunches and 11 pushups before riding my bike. I also walked the dog; not as far as last night, but farther than the night before. I deliberately didn’t walk for as long as I might have because it was raining and quite chilly.
I’m really pleased with my progress in pushups. I may not have lost any weight, but I am gaining upper-body strength!

Today I did 5 pilates repeats and, I believe, 9 pushups. I walked about a mile to and from a nearby bakery (which was, disappointingly, closed–it had just had a fire). Later, I took the dog for a nice long walk.

Today I did 30 crunches and 8 pushups. I didn’t ride my bike, because of Easter, but I did walk the dog (a fairly short walk, but speedy) tonight.
